Nordennavic

Nordennavic[a] (alternatively spelled Nordennavik[1][2][3]), officially the Kingdom of Nordennavic,[b][4] is a monarchical nation with a policy of armed neutrality[4] located on the northwest of the Anean continent, close to the North Pole. Due to its proximity to the pole, the country's temperature is naturally cold.[4] It shares its only land border with Emmeria to the southeast.[5]

During the Emmeria-Estovakia War, Nordennavic remained neutral in the conflict as per policy, but took in a large number of Emmerian refugees.[6] The country is also known for its thriving machine industry, which greatly contributes to its economy.[4]

History

Canon

Ulysses Impact Event (1998–1999)

In July 1998, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) announced new discoveries that confirmed the Ulysses 1994XF04 impact radius now included the Anean continent in addition to Usea. After the IUN chairman and FCU agreed that Stonehenge's range would not be upgraded, nation-wide protests sprung up in Nordennavic and the other Anean nations against the IUN and FCU for their abysmal crisis management.[7]

In July 1999, the Ulysses 1994XF04 asteroid entered Earth's atmosphere and caused extensive damage and political instability across both the continents of Anea and Usea. Nordennavic is known to have suffered at least one major Ulysses impact.[3]

Modern era (1999—)

In 2006, the ISAF Bulletin had reported that the Republic of Anea (or one of its member nations) was involved in arms trading with Erusea.[8] It is possible that Nordennavic's machine industry supplied these arms.

In August 2008, the Republic of Anea was recognised as a single republic at the G7 Summit aboard the Arkbird.[9] Presumably, Nordennavian representatives also attended the event.

In the 2010s, one of Nordennavic's most prominent weapons manufacturing firms, Macmillan Heavy Industries, began investing heavily in research and development into biotechnology and human cloning.[10]

Emmeria-Estovakia War (2015—2016)

During the Emmeria-Estovakia War, Nordennavic took in many Emmerian refugees fleeing from Estovakia's occupation through multiple refugee facilities along its border.[6]

Northern Wings features numerous contradictions with other Ace Combat games that take place in Strangereal. As such, Ace Combat Wiki considers the following information non-canon to the Strangereal timeline. Refer to the canon policy for more information.

Nordennavic has maintained its strict policy of diplomatic neutrality for centuries.[11] The nation supports an intelligence agency known as Nordennavic Intelligence.[12]

At some point during the construction of the Osean Arkbird spacecraft, Nordennavic secretly aided in its development.[13]

Due to the Ulysses impacts, Nordennavic's government feared that their neutrality would be contested and, in response, created the top-secret Grendel Squadron. The squadron had the objective of covertly influencing conflicts that may threaten Nordennavic and its neutrality. Grendel was secretly dispatched to influence various conflicts around the globe.[14]

During the prelude to the Continental War, Grendel Squadron partook in clandestine operations against Erusea. Their first was to safeguard the IUN General Assembly Commissioner from the Federal Erusean Air Force, who were attempting to keep the Commissioner from inspecting Ulysses refugee camps.[15] Next, they defended humanitarian airliners carrying Ulysses refugees from Erusean fighter aircraft.[16]

After the Continental War broke out, Grendel participated in a covert operation alongside ISAF forces to destroy Erusean radar sites on Mount Shezna.[17]

During the Circum-Pacific War, Grendel operated the Arkbird's laser weaponry to repel a Yuktobanian attack on the Osean base of Sand Island.[13] They later protected Sand Island from a second Yuktobanian assault while the Osean Wardog Squadron was on a secret mission.[18]

When Nordennavian intelligence learned that a secret organization of Belkan hardliners called the Grey Men had orchestrated the war between Osea and Yuktobania, they began operations in support of the two nations. It was soon discovered that the Grey Men had programmed the Arkbird to crash into the Osean capital of Oured,[note 1] and Grendel was sent on a clandestine mission to destroy the spacecraft before it destroyed the city. Grendel succeeded, eliminating the threat to Oured.[12]

During the Estovakian Civil War, Grendel Squadron was dispatched to secretly support General Gustav Dvornik's Eastern Faction against General Lyes' Lyes United Front.[19]

Upon the outbreak of the Emmeria-Estovakia War, Nordennavic deployed Grendel Squadron to support the evacuation of the Emmerian military from the capital city of Gracemeria by holding off the Estovakian Air Force.[20]

By the end of the war, Nordennavic had helped turn the tide of battle in Emmeria's favor. Despite this, Estovakia attempted to use the Chandelier superweapon to attack Gracemeria in a last-ditch attempt. Grendel Squadron was ordered to destroy an Estovakian anti-air weapon system to allow the Emmerian Air Force to approach Chandelier safely. After Grendel 1 successfully eliminated the weapon using an experimental VTOL fighter, the Emmerians were able to begin their assault on Chandelier.[21]

Geography

Due to the cold climate, Nordennavic does not feature a particularly diverse set of landscapes and biomes, but it does host an abundance of lakes and forests.[4] The nation controls the northwest of the Anean mainland, as well as a large number of islands off its coast.[5]

Politics

Government

Nordennavic is a kingdom and is therefore ruled by a monarch. Throughout history, the nation has opted to remain neutral during any conflict that may arise.[4]

Military

The only known branch of the Nordennavian military is the Nordennavic Royal Air Force.[22]

Economy

Nordennavic has a thriving machine industry which greatly contributes to its economy. Many leading global enterprises, such as Macmillan Heavy Industries, are situated there.[4]

Northern Wings contradicts this portrayal by depicting the Arkbird as being programmed to crash into Oured. Furthermore, Northern Wings depicts Grendel Squadron destroying the Arkbird alone, whereas AC5 depicts Razgriz Squadron destroying the Arkbird instead.
