Fiona Chris Fitzgerald is a major character in the Japanese version of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere. She is a fighter pilot for the UPEO, a close friend of Erich Jager and the younger sister of Neucom ace pilot Cynthia Bridgitte Fitzgerald.

Biography

Early life

Fiona Chris Fitzgerald was born on January 26, 2016. Her parents are wealthy members in the upper hierarchy of General Resource Limited.[2] She had received special pilot training since she was 3 years old. At the age of 22, she completed her postgraduate education in aeronautical engineering from Edwards University.[7] In opposition to her sister Cynthia, who joined Neucom Incorporated, and out of a sense of justice,[2] Fiona joined UPEO in 2039 and became a pilot in SARF in 2040.[7]

Intercorporate War simulation

Fiona starts the intercorporate war by intercepting Neucom transport aircraft over Expo City along with other SARF members.[8] From then on, she flies on various missions for SARF; however, she rarely flew alongside UPEO's ace pilot Rena Hirose.[9][10][11][12] Like Erich, she doubted UPEO's objectives, suspecting that the organization was a pawn of a larger entity. Disillusioned with UPEO, she volunteers to fly Gabriel W. Clarkson in an R-505U to a détente conference at Cape Rainy, with herself, Clarkson and 37 other members of UPEO intending to defect to Neucom.[13]

There are four possible fates for Fiona after this point. Three paths lead to her death, and one leaves her alive.

UPEO

Either Nemo or Rena shoot down the R-505U, killing everyone on board it, including Fiona. Rena will kill Fiona only if Nemo does not kill either her or the R-101U at the decision point.

General Resource

If Nemo defects to General Resource, it, Keith Bryan and Abyssal Dision will intercept Fiona over Lambert. Nemo shoots down the R-505U, killing Fiona and preventing her defection to Neucom.[14]

Neucom

If Nemo shoots down the R-101U, it accompanies Fiona to Dennis Airport to join her in defecting to Neucom. Fiona reunites with Cynthia.[15]

Fiona, Cynthia and Nemo are directed to destroy General Resource's White Valley AFB using the R-311 Remora.[15] After the destruction of the GRDF base, they are assigned to either protect an R-808 Phoca as it returns to Earth,[16] or remain on standby as Nemo pilots an R-352 Sepia to destroy GR laser satellites in outer space.[17] If Nemo chooses to protect the R-808, it, Fiona and Cynthia must later recover a Neucom reconnaissance satellite fallen intact into the sea before GR can accomplish the same.[18] Before and after the satellite recovery mission, Fiona expresses to Nemo her eroding faith in both Neucom and Cynthia, stating that flying with Nemo is the only reason she continues to work for Neucom.[18]

Prior to a second mission against White Valley AFB, Fiona barges in on Cynthia in their room, angrily asking why Cynthia volunteered to be one of Neucom's sublimation subjects. Cynthia responds equally angrily, defending her decision and walking out without caring to listen to Fiona, who decides for herself that sublimation is morally corrupt, and that the human being can never become God. This conflict reaches its peak in White Valley, where Cynthia attempts to defect to Ouroboros and Fiona is helpless to stop her, leaving Nemo to choose between joining Cynthia or keeping Fiona company.[19]

If Nemo does not defect from Neucom, Fiona, disappointed with her sister for going to the 'dark side', does not desert either. She continues fighting Ouroboros; three times she and Nemo are scrambled to attack the UI-4053 Sphyrna.[20] On the second sortie, Cynthia arrives to defend the dirigible, and Nemo engages her in a dogfight. Cynthia ignores Fiona's pleas over radio for her to cease fighting, and dies against Nemo. The incident leaves Fiona extremely depressed.[21][22]

Fiona and Nemo chase Dision and Rena through Geofront[23] and engage them in a dogfight in the underground city. They quickly defeat Rena with Simon Orestes Cohen's assistance, and engage Dision in a protracted dogfight, eventually killing him. Fiona resigns from Neucom on the spot, having completely lost faith in the company and its inhuman work and policies.[24]

Later, Fiona sits dejected in her apartment, staring at a holographic picture of herself and Cynthia, when the sublimated Cynthia suddenly messages her over the electrosphere. AI Cynthia repeats exactly what the human Cynthia did; she is enraptured by the electrosphere, and wishes for Fiona to experience it as well. Disgusted and agonized over the confirmation of her worst belief - that Cynthia truly did wish to throw away her flesh for the digital realm, Fiona breaks down crying.[24]

Ouroboros II

If Nemo chooses to defect to Ouroboros with Cynthia, Fiona is killed alongside numerous other Neucom personnel in a Ouroboros raid on a Neucom base in the Waiapolo Mountains.[25]

Trivia

Fiona, like her sister, shares a surname with Republic of Emmeria Army Steel Gunners Battalion commander Bobby Fitzgerald. Any relation is unknown.
