"This... This is no remnant resistance. This war's not over yet."
― PJ

The Final Overture is the 14th campaign mission in Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War. Similar to Juggernaut and Merlon, the player can choose one of three operations to take part in.

Briefing[edit]

We've received a report that remaining Belkan troops are converging on Belka's northeast coast of Anfang. The enemy is deploying land, sea and air strike teams. These troops refuse to accept the Belkan interim government's official capitulation, and are adamantly resisting. In light of the current political situation, this mission will be a top-secret operation carried out entirely by mercenaries. The mission will be called Operation Broom, and will be divided into three separate areas. The Mars strike team will attack enemy naval vessels and surface troops along the coast. The Mercury strike team will engage land units and enemy fighters that are using a tunnel as a makeshift air base. The Jupiter strike team will be responsible for maintaining air superiority after the Mars and Mercury teams have completed their missions. This operation will begin at 1600, when the capitulation ceremony takes place in Lumen. Mars team will strike first, followed by Mercury and then Jupiter. Choose carefully which team you wish to join. That is all.

Mission Descriptions[edit]

Mars[edit]

Objectives[edit]

Mars is an anti-surface mission, combining ground targets on the coastline and enemy ships west of the coast. A small group of Gripens also defend the area after the player destroys some of the enemies.

The player will complete the mission upon destroying all TGTs.

S Rank[edit]

Earning an S rank on Mars requires completing the mission in 8 minutes or less.[1]

Debriefing[edit]

Thanks to your help, the operation was a success. The ceremony was also conducted without any trouble. We are still investigating why so many enemy forces were converging together, but have succeeded in cutting off the remaining resistance forces from the rest of the Belkan army.

Mercury[edit]

Objectives[edit]

Mercury is a combined air-to-air/air-to-ground mission. The player must destroy some ground facilities, but some Belkan aircraft marked as TGTs will spawn out of nearby tunnels. There are also many neutral ground targets that the player may wish to destroy on a Mercenary Ace Style.

The player will complete the mission upon destroying all TGTs.

S Rank[edit]

Earning an S rank on Mercury requires completing the mission in 8 minutes or less.[2]

Debriefing[edit]

Thanks to your help, the operation was a success. The ceremony was also conducted without any trouble. The various governments will meet to decide upon what happens to Belka now, in accordance with the war-end agreement.

Jupiter[edit]

Objectives[edit]

Jupiter is solely an anti-air mission. The player must shoot down almost every hostile aircraft in the area. However, while the player may be fooled by a single EA-6B Prowler jamming the airspace, many more will spawn and cover a large area in jamming. More aircraft will also spawn out of nearby tunnels as reinforcements.

The player will complete the mission upon destroying all TGTs.

Trivia[edit]

  • The strike teams are named after real-world planets, which are in turn named after gods in Roman mythology.

Footnotes[edit]

  1. These Gripen Cs spawn after the player destroys any 10 non-yellow surface units. On Hard and Expert difficulties, the player must shoot down "Messer 1" and "Messer 2" first. On Ace difficulty, the player must shoot down "Kranich" first, then "Messer 1" and "Messer 2".
  2. 2.0 2.1 If the player destroys this ship's weapons first, the ship will become neutralized and the player will only receive points for the weapons. If the player destroys the ship body itself, the entire ship will be destroyed and the player will receive points for both the ship and its weapons.
  3. "Weihe" spawns after the player neutralizes two TGT ships by destroying their sub-weapons but not the ships themselves.
  4. 4.0 4.1 "Messer 1" and "Messer 2" spawn after the player destroys any 10 non-yellow surface units. On Ace difficulty, the player must shoot down "Kranich" first.
  5. "Kranich" spawns after the player destroys any 10 non-yellow surface units.
  6. The F-14Ds in Group A spawn once the player completes one of the following conditions:
    • Approacing the eastern group of ground targets before approaching the western group.
    • Shooting down the F-14Ds in Group B.
  7. The F-14Ds in Group B spawn once the player completes one of the following conditions:
    • Approaching the western group of ground targets before approaching the eastern group.
    • Shooting down the F-14Ds in Group A.
    • Destroying 22 or more TGTs.
  8. These Gripen Cs spawn at both tunnels, one at each tunnel, at the start of the mission.
  9. This Gripen C spawns in the eastern tunnel after the player destroys five ground TGTs.
  10. This Gripen C spawns in the eastern tunnel after the player shoots down three air TGTs.
  11. This Gripen C spawns in the eastern tunnel once the player completes one of the following conditions:
    • Destroying six ground TGTs and shooting down four aerial TGTs (only counting the Gripen Cs that spawn in the eastern tunnel and the F-14Ds in Group A)
    • Destroying six ground TGTs and shooting down any nine aircraft
  12. This Gripen C spawns in the western tunnel once the player destroys four ground TGTs or shoots down nine air TGTs.
  13. This Gripen C spawns in the western tunnel once the player destroys four ground TGTs or shoots down seven air TGTs.
  14. This Gripen C spawns in the western tunnel once the player completes one of the following conditions:

  15. These F-14Ds spawn once the player shoots down 10 aerial TGTs with at least nine TGTs still remaining on the ground.
  16. 16.0 16.1 The AA GUNs and SAMs on the Mercury strike team fire less often on Very Easy and Easy difficulties.
  17. "Lanze" spawns only if the player shoots down any Gripen C before it takes off from the runways outside the tunnels.
  18. "Albatros" spawns if the player destroys all of the ground TGTs before destroying all of the air TGTs. Unlocks the F-15E's Special color.
