"Now we show the power of the Varcolac Squadron."
Milosz Sulejmani

Raging Sea is the eleventh mission of Ace Combat: Joint Assault.

Briefing[edit]

Burford: IUPF intel across the Mediterranean has been reporting attacks coming from the ocean. Intel suggests the Valahia are using an unknown port somewhere in the Croatian Adriatic Sea. The Valahia are using this port to launch guerilla raids by ship and submarine across the Mediterranean. The attack on London draws near, but IUPF Command has now ordered Antares to handle this port. Hostile fighter squadrons are also confirmed in the area. Select your arms to attack both air and sea. Wipe out all hostile forces in the Adriatic Sea!

Objectives[edit]

At the start of the mission, a refueling minigame takes place.

The first phase of the mission is purely air-to-air and begins with three enemy aircraft spawning ahead of the player. Once they are shot down, two F/A-18E Super Hornets will appear and fly at high speeds to the north side of the map above the harbor in an attempt to lure Antares to a trap. Afterwards, the traitorous Rigel Squadron, now the Varcolac Squadron will zoom past Antares and begin their attack. The pilots of the Varcolac Squadron are noticeably more skilled than regular pilots and therefore more challenging. They will concentrate their attack but this can be countered by getting behind their backs and when they are in formation they leave themselves vulnerable to long range multi-lock air-to-air weapons such as XMAAs and XLAAs. Defeating three members of the Varcolac Squadron will cause them to retreat.

The second phase of the mission almost entirely consists of air-to-surface attacks. The primary threat is the enemy Submarine which launches a single Hi-TASM with a wide damage radius in the area directly above it. To avoid damage, fly above 1,000 meters (800 meters on Easy and Normal difficulty) or away from the area. The Submarine cannot be destroyed until it surfaces again, after which the mission will be completed.

Debriefing[edit]

Burford: Hostile forces in the area have been wiped out. This should bring a halt to the submarine raids. But the issue is still Sulejmani and his men... This "Varcolac Squadron". We knew they would pose this big a threat. But I still believe you can defeat them. You have the skills to invoke fear in them, the next time you meet.

Footnotes[edit]

  1. 1.0 1.1 The F/A-18Es cannot be shot down until they have lured the player to the harbor at the north side of the map.
  2. 2.0 2.1 One additional AJS 37 and one additional F/A-18E appear in multiplayer.
  3. 3.0 3.1 3.2 3.3 Performing enough damage to a Varcolac pilot will remove their targeting box. None of them can be shot down, and no points will be awarded. Defeating any three Varcolac pilots will remove the fourth's targeting box and advance the mission.
  4. 4.0 4.1 One AJS 37 and one F/A-18E spawn after the SUBMARINE submerges for the first time.
  5. The SUBMARINE will appear after the player(s) approach(es) the two GUNBOATs in front of them at the start of Phase 2. It can only be destroyed after it fires the first Hi-TASM and resurfaces. While launching a Hi-TASM, the SUBMARINE can be fully damaged but its destruction will wait until the Hi-TASM detonates.
  6. KRAKEN spawns in Phase 2 if the player defeats Varcolac Squadron within ten minutes. KRAKEN will spawn at the harbor in the north among several other ground units.
