The AJS 37 Viggen is a a single-engine, delta wing, canard configuration multirole aircraft with STOL (Short-Takeoff-And-Landing) capabilities, as well as the ability to operate from improvised wartime airfields, like highway strips.
It made its debut in Ace Combat 2 and later appeared in the handheld titles Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception and Ace Combat: Joint Assault.
History

The only recorded use of Viggens was during the Aurelian War where it was sporadically used by the Leasath Air Force, which included an ace pilot with callsign Saber.[1]

The aircraft was available to Antares Squadron during the Valahia Crisis.

Trivia
- The Viggen model originally used in Ace Combat: Joint Assault was the AJS 37 model. However, the final version retained the original JA 37 from Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception.
- In real life, the Viggen could not refuel midair. While the plane can complete refueling minigames in both Ace Combat X and Joint Assault, the tanker refueling boom will float slightly above the plane fuselage.
