"None can stand against the Valahia. Bring the full force of the Orgoi against them!"
― Orgoi I commander[1]

The Orgoi[a] was a class of airborne aircraft carrier[note 1] and heavy bomber developed by the Golden Axe Plan. A medium sized aerial warship that ultimately boasted light offensive capabilities, the Orgoi complemented the firepower of the larger and much more powerful Spiridus by using raw maneuverability to its advantage.

A single vessel was commissioned and completed by the Plan for use by the Valahia terrorist organization during the opening weeks of their armed uprising. It was, however, quickly destroyed during an ill-fated assault on the Japanese city of Tokyo.[1] An additional three Orgois were fielded by the Golden Axe Plan Private Army in an attempt to assassinate rogue elements of the International Union Peacekeeping Force at Midway Island, but were easily dispatched by Antares Squadron.[2]

Etymology

While the origins of the name Orgoi are unclear, it may refer to the Mongolian death worm, a cryptid purported to exist in the Gobi Desert. The death worm is known in its native Mongolia as olgoi-khorkhoi[b], which may have been shortened to olgoi before being mistranslated as Orgoi.

According to stories propagated about the death worm, it is so poisonous so as to be able to kill with a mere touch. It can also reportedly discharge electricity and spit venom.

History

Attack on Tokyo

Developed under the Golden Axe Plan alongside the Spiridus, a lone Orgoi unit was procured for use by the Valahia terrorist group prior to December 1, 2010. The ship attacked the Japanese capital of Tokyo as part of a third attempted assault on the city, and was engaged by both Martinez Security and the Japanese military. Despite its unusual agility, it was destroyed by the Antares Squadron, and was safely sunk into Tokyo Bay after the destruction of its engines.[1]

Golden Axe Plan Crisis

After the destruction of the Valahia's headquarters in Romania and Frederick Burford's discovery of the Golden Axe Plan, a fleet of three Orgois operated by the Golden Axe Plan Private Army were sent to assassinate the rogue elements of Martinez—among them Burford and Antares Squadron—who had uncovered the Plan. However, Antares survived their initial attack on the island and successfully destroyed all three vessels, putting an end to the Orgoi.[2]

The runways of an Orgoi
"Whoa, what the hell?!
Don't wanna get hit by that thing."
Daniel Oruma and Faryd Gaviria commenting on the Orgoi's extreme maneuverability[1]

Designed as both a bomber and an airborne aircraft carrier,[note 1] the Orgois were aerial warships that used a flying wing design, superficially resembling an enlarged B-2A Spirit bomber with crooked outer wings. Complementing the Spiridus's firepower, Orgois were highly agile, easily hovering into stalling speeds and even moving sideways if needed. A common danger to pilots engaging an Orgoi was colliding with the ship's massive airframe as the carrier performed erratic maneuvers. Unlike the Spiridus, which used five clusters of engines for propulsion, the Orgoi instead utilized two massive engines on the trailing edge of its wings. These engines emitted purple flames, hinting at an intense temperature output.[1][2]

The Orgois were overall lightly armed compared to their larger counterpart, the Spiridus. Boasting relatively light anti-air weaponry in the form of AA guns and SAMs,[1][2] they also had multiple ventral weapons bays for carrying bomb loads.[2]

Trivia

  • The Orgoi's extreme maneuverability is possibly a nod to the Arkbird from Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, which was known to suffer a glitch in the mission "White Bird (Part II)"  that would make its AI change to that of a common fighter, greatly enhancing its mobility and making it nearly impossible to destroy.
  • Despite having visible runways, the Orgoi never deploys any fighter aircraft in-game. This is likely due to the Orgoi's erratic maneuvering, which could greatly complicate spawning aircraft from a game design standpoint.
