The Hyper-Velocity Air-to-Air Missile (HVAA) is a special air-to-air weapon. It debuted in Ace Combat Infinity and later appeared in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

Overview

The HVAA's missile speed is remarkably similar to Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation's XLAAs. Just like the SAAM and QAAM, the HVAA can only be fired in salvos of two. An HVAA missile takes the shape of a black version of the semi-active radar guided missile the aircraft is compatible with (or a green-tipped SAAM in the beta). The brevity code for an HVAA launch is Fox Three, hinting that HVAA is an active radar guided air-to-air missile. HVAA for United States aircraft is AIM-7 and for Russian aircraft is R-27. In Online Co-Op Missions, the HVAA is used by Quickshot squadron's MiG-31Bs.

Game Analysis

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

"High-speed air-to-air missiles that make mincemeat of slow-witted targets. Their ability to travel long distances makes them ideal for surprise attacks."

"The fastest air to air missile among all air to air weapons.
It also has a long range, allowing it to reach distant targets in just a short time.
Homing capabilities are not especially high, but it is a highly effective weapon in the hands of a pilot skilled at getting behind his enemy."

Trivia

  • During the beta, HVAAs were green-tipped (now they are black-tipped), comparing to currently HPAAs that are red-tipped and HCAAs that are blue-tipped. This could be a representation of the three primary colors – Red, Green, Blue or RGB. The missiles being complementary to each other further supports this.
