The Hyper-Velocity Air-to-Air Missile (HVAA) is a special air-to-air weapon. It debuted in Ace Combat Infinity and later appeared in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

Overview

HVAA is a missile with an extremely high flight speed, and respectable range. Its speed makes it very difficult for the enemy to dodge when fired from the right angle, however it comes at the cost of poor turning due to missile's speed. HVAA for American aircraft is AIM-7 Sparrow, and for Russian aircraft is R-27 (AA-10 Alamo).

Game Analysis

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

"High-speed air-to-air missiles that make mincemeat of slow-witted targets. Their ability to travel long distances makes them ideal for surprise attacks."

"The fastest air to air missile among all air to air weapons.
It also has a long range, allowing it to reach distant targets in just a short time.
Homing capabilities are not especially high, but it is a highly effective weapon in the hands of a pilot skilled at getting behind his enemy."

Trivia

  • Despite the HVAA using semi-active radar homing missile model, it behaves like a fire-and-forget missile, and does not require the player to keep the target within circle on their HUD. The AWACS also calls out Fox 3 brevity code, corresponding to missiles with active radar homing, when HVAA is fired.
