"Next chance I get, I'm cutting out your damn windpipe!"
― Sergei Brynner

Sergei Brynner[a] was the leader of the Usean Allied Forces's Beast Squadron prior to his defection to the rebel forcesduring the Usean coup d'état. He confronted Scarface Squadron at least once, but was shot down.[1] If the player goes through Operation Alphaville, they will encounter Brynner a second time and shoot him down again.[2]

Brynner's home country is officially stated as Gratobie. However, there are suspicions that he is actually Belkan.[3] During combat, he alludes to this by claiming to have met aces at "Roundtable".[2]

Biography

Belkan War

Brynner's actions during the Belkan War, or whether he even took part, are unknown. He claims to have experience at Area B7R[2][3], but this is not confirmed by official sources.

Usean coup d'état

By 1997, Sergei was the leader of the Beast Squadron, regarded with a mixture of awe and revulsion as one of the deadliest units in Usea.[4] After the outbreak of the Usean coup d'état, Sergei and his unit defected to the Usean Rebel Forces.

On April 29, 1998, the squadron engaged the Scarface Squadron over the Payton Channel. During the engagement, all pilots were shot down, including Sergei himself.[1] After he was shot down, he professed his desire to fight Scarface 1 again, vowing that they would have a rematch.[4]

On August 30 of the same year, his squadron engaged Scarface Squadron for the second time over a rocket base in the Comona Islands. Sergei was shot down once again, and this time, it is unknown if he survived.[2]

Personality and Traits

While vicious in his tactics, Brynner was a realist who would use anything to his advantage, even electronic warfare.[3] He was intensely violent in his speech and callous toward even his own allies, telling them that it was their fault that they got shot down. He once professed during their second encounter that he wanted to see Phoenix bleed, and that if they met for a third time, that he would would cut out Phoenix's windpipe.
