Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Gripen E is an enhanced variant of the Gripen C. It made its debut in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

History

The Gripen E saw sporadic usage during the Lighthouse War, mainly by the Erusean Air Force. Several were stationed at an airbase in Roca Roja; they took off to intercept Spare Squadron during their attack on the base.[1] One month later, Erusean Gripen Es, Mirage 2000-5s and MiG-31Bs were sent to intercept Colonel McKinsey's transport as it flew towards Bulgurdarest. Among the Gripen pilots was Ken Warren, callsign "Louveteau".[2] The Gripen later saw use by the Erusean Air Force to defend Farbanti during Osea's Operation Giant's Step[3] and by the reestablished Voslagian Air Force during their defense of Shilage Castle.[4]

Game Analysis

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

"A low-weight multirole fighter. The newly redesigned E-model features a larger body, a retrofitted large-thrust engine, advanced avionics, and more. The country where it was developed needed a fighter capable of both eliminating a high number of invaders and interdicting at sea. Accordingly, the fighter was made to be able to take off at high speeds from short runways, reducing its time away from operation areas and increasing the amount of interdictions possible. Developed over a number of years to meet its country's needs, the craft has been sold successfully to countries with similar situations. Its nickname is "Gripen."."
