F-4G Phantom II Wild Weasel
The F-4G Phantom II Wild Weasel V is a dedicated ground attack variant of the F-4E Phantom II. Similar to the F-4E, the F-4G features low statistics and weaponry, thus it is used as a starter attacker aircraft.
Description
Continuing the Wild Weasel line of electronic weapons-assisted, air-defense suppressing ground attackers, the F-4G Wild Weasel V was developed from the F-4E Phantom II. It was substantially altered to perform in the SEAD role:
- The M61A1 Vulcan cannon was removed and replaced with the AN/APR-38 RHAW (Radar Homing And Warning) reciever, later the APR-38 itself was replaced by the AN/APR-47.
- Several ECM pods were fitted, including the AN/ALQ-87, AN/ALQ-101, AN/ALQ-119, AN/ALQ-130 and AN/ALQ-131.
- The AN/APQ-120 radar was modified to be able to fire the AGM-45 Shrike, AGM-78 Standard ARM and AGM-88 HARM anti-radiation missiles.
- The rear section of the cockpit was modified to function as an Electronic Weapons Systems Officer's seat.
However, in its appearances in Ace Combat, the F-4G features an external cannon pod(s).
History
Strangereal
F-4Gs were used by both the Osean Air Defense Force and the Yuktobanian Air Force during the Circum-Pacific War. A notable pilot was the former captain of Wardog Squadron, Jack Bartlett.[1] Another notable pilot was the Yuktobanian ace "Mindripper", who participated in the bombing of Sand Island, but was shot down.[2]
Infinity universe
The F-4G was made available through Wernher and Noah Enterprises's Advanced Automated Aviation Plants. The United Nations Forces and its mercenary pilots were able to use these blueprints to purchase their own F-4Gs during Operation Eternal Liberation.
Game Analysis
Ace Combat Infinity
- "This air-to-ground attack aircraft is an improved version of the F-4E Phantom II which has been developed to carry out SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defense) missions. It features the same mobility as the F-4E, but can also be equipped with air-to-ground missiles. It is known as the legendary "Wild Weasel" and has received high recognition for its performance during the Gulf War."

Trivia
The Level 15 nickname for the F-4G in Infinity, YGBSM, is the acronym for the unofficial motto of the USAF's Wild Weasel program: "You Gotta Be Shittin' Me!".
- ↑ Players could use one Nonstandard Upgrade Request Form instead of credits for the Lv.6 upgrade.
