Alect Squadron (unit)
The Alect Squadron (アレクト隊 Arekuto-tai) was an elite fighter unit comprised of some of Leasath's best pilots; the squadron ranked among the Leasath Air Force's highest ranked groups, along with the Chimera Squadron.[2] They were skilled pilots in combat, although they proved to be quite overconfident in battle and dismissive towards their allies.[3] By virtue of their status, they reported exclusively to Leasath's dictator, Diego Gaspar Navarro.[4]
Etymology
Alect is a stylized rendering of Alecto, one of the Erinyes or "Furies" of Greek mythology. In myth, Alecto's role is that of inflicting punishment for moral crimes against other human beings. Functionally, she is similar to Nemesis, whose duty is castigating crimes against the gods. Fittingly, Gryphus 1 is given the nickname of "Nemesis" by Leasath troops.
History
Despite their reputation, Alect did not participate in the early stages of the Aurelian War, instead remaining on standby in Leasath territory for the majority of the conflict.[4] Near the end of the Aurelian War, the squadron was contacted by Diego Gaspar Navarro with a proposition to pilot his new experimental aircraft, the Fenrir. Navarro ensured they would accept the offer by playing on their desire to do battle with "Nemesis," the pilot who had singlehandedly turned the tide of the war in Aurelia's favor.[4]
While Aurelia was dealing with a shipment of microwave weapons that were planned for use on Fenrir, Alect successfully reached Archelon Fortress and acquired four Fenrirs from the fortress's production line.[5]
Shortly after the Gryphus and Aquila Squadrons entered Sentry Island's airspace to initiate an assault on Archelon Fortress, Alect Squadron was deployed to engage the Aurelian forces in the area. Despite the squadron's superior capabilities and use of optical camouflage, all members were shot down.[1]
Alternate events
Instead of assaulting Cobalt Cave to destroy the HPM shipments and research facilities, Aurelia instead opted to intercept the Alect Squadron before they could reach Archelon Fortress, ambushing the squadron over the Danern Straits with both the Gryphus and Falco Squadrons. During the dogfight, all members of the squadron were shot down, preventing them from ever piloting Fenrir. However, this allowed the HPM shipment to reach Sentry Island unimpeded.[6]
Trivia
- Before the release of Ace Combat Infinity's "End Of Deception Ranking Tournament", the squadron was never designated an emblem.
- Despite there being six Alect members in Mission 13A, there are only four Alect Fenrirs present in Mission 15B.
