Aquila Squadron

Aquila Squadron is a squadron of the Aurelian Air Force. The squadron saw action in the final battle of the Aurelian War.
Etymology
Like most Aurelian squadrons, Aquila is named for a type of bird. In their case, it is Aquila, the genus of true eagles.
History
Aquila Squadron assisted Gryphus Squadron during the final battle of the Aurelian War. As the squadron engaged Leasathian forces at Archelon Fortress, Aquila 2 was shot down by the Alect Squadron's Fenrirs.[1]
After Gryphus 1 destroyed Archelon Fortress from the inside with the help of an Aurelian amphibious unit, a member of Aquila loudly complained that he could have been the one to destroy Archelon, had the door not closed.[1]
Alternate events
While on approach to Archelon Fortress, the squadron's leader was killed by a surprise attack from Fenrir's High-Powered Microwave. During the ensuing dogfight, Aquila 2 also fell victim to the HPM, despite the warnings of his squadronmates.[2]
When Archelon Fortress's commander ordered the deployment of the base's Shock Cannon, Aquila 3 was caught in the initial blast. The squadron's remaining members congratulated Gryphus 1 after he destroyed the Shock Cannon, returning to Aurelia victorious.[2]
Trivia
- Despite the briefing noting that two members of the squadron fly YF-23 Black Widow IIs, the cutscenes prior to both Missions 15A and 15B portray the formation as entirely made up of F-22A Raptors.
