The Ace Combat series often makes references and allusions to Greek mythology.

Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception and Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion

Naiad

In mythology, naiads were nymphs who presided over fountains. Their bodies were linked to their body of water, meaning that if said body was drained, they would die.

In Ace Combat X, the plot of the mission "Ice Bound" centers on an Aurelian submarine, the Naiad, which must be escorted by the player after an underwater mine forces it to surface.

Alect

Alecto (lit. "the implacable and unceasing anger") was one of the three Erinys, or "Furies", in Greek myth. All three Furies wielded whips, had bat wings and snakes for hair, while blood dripped from their eyes. Alecto's job was to punish the moral crimes that humans committed against fellow men (as opposed to Nemesis, goddess of revenge, who punished crimes committed against the gods).

In Ace Combat X, the Alect Squadron are an elite ace unit of the Leasath Air Force. They inevitably come into conflict with the protagonist, Gryphus 1, who himself earns the nickname "Nemesis" among Leasath troops.

Chimera

The Chimera (lit. "she-goat") was a monstrous creature in Greek mythology that was commonly depicted as a beast with the body and head of a lion, a goat head protruding from its back, while its tail was itself a snake.

In Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion, the Chimera Squadron are an elite ace unit of the Leasath Air Force.

Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation

Hecatoncheires

In Greek mythology, the Hecatoncheires (lit. "hundred-handed ones") are a trio of giant creatures of massive size and great strength, each boasting fifty heads and one hundred hands. They helped the Olympians overthrow the Titans during the Titanomachy. Born as the children of Ouranos and Gaia, the Hecatoncheires were Cottus, Gyges, and Briareus, the latter of whom was also known as Aegaeon.

In Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, the Estovakian Aerial Fleet consists of five airships, all named after the Hecatonchires: the P-1112 Aigaion, the P-1113 Kottos, and the P-1114 Gyges.

Lamia and Seiren

In myth, Lamia was a queen of Libya who became a child-eating demon. Seiren is an alternate spelling for "siren", a race of seductresses who lured sailors to their deaths through hypnotic singing.

In Ace Combat 6, the Ace of Aces version of "Vitoze Aerial Defense" includes a pair of Estovakian Air Force squadrons, Lamia and Seiren, both of which fly EF-2000 Typhoon aircraft.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown
