Russian Navy
The Russian Navy[a] is the naval component of the Russian Federation's military. It was formed in January 1992 as the true successor of the Soviet Navy, which had been temporarily succeeded by the Navy of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which was itself formed after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991.
The Russian Navy also has an air arm in the form of the Russian Naval Aviation (AV-MF), which operates land and ship-based aircraft and helicopters. Aircraft and helicopters of the Russian Naval Aviation uniquely bear the Russian naval ensign on their fuselages, where Russian Air Force aircraft do not.
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon
During the New Russian Federation uprising, the eponymous faction of the Russian military captured the Russian prime minister and took him prisoner aboard a yacht in the Black Sea. The Navy's Black Sea Fleet and elements of Russian Naval Aviation—whom were loyal to the NRF—were set to guard the yacht and keep the prime minister secure against foreign interference.. The Russian fleet was led by the Admiral Aristov, an Admiral Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier. The United States Air Force and loyalist elements of the Russian Air Force attacked the fleet while United States Navy SEALs and Russian Spetsnaz commandos successfully recovered the prime minister. The vast majority of the fleet was destroyed in the process.[1]
