Daonan Islands
The Daonan Islands are a series of island located southwest of the Gunther Peninsula. The Daonan islands support a rural population and feature a large antenna aimed at the solar power generation station atop the International Space Elevator.[1]
History
In 1999, the impact of the Ulysses 1994XF04 asteroid shifted nearby sea currents and broke the undersea cables tying it to the mainland, worsening the already poor energy situation on the Daonan Islands.[1]
When the International Space Elevator began construction in 2013,[2] it became top priority for Usea to use the power generated by the space elevator to help areas such as Daonan to recover. In the case of Daonan, switching to microwave power transmission will free the islands from having to rely upon a frequently fluctuating supply of natural resources.[1]
By July 2019, substantial progress towards recovery finally began taking place.[1]
