Aozora Sorano
Aozora Sorano[a] is a Japanese idol and member of the idol groups ARCANA PROJECT and Dempagumi.inc. She became a brand ambassador for the Ace Combat franchise in 2022 and featured in a set of promotional videos chronicling her induction into the new role.
Biography
Personal life and career
Sorano was born on October 16, 1996[1] in the Toyama Prefecture in Japan,[2] though she self-identifies as having come from the Side 3 space colony from the Gundam franchise.[1] As a fan of Gundam and a self-described otaku,[3] one of her hobbies includes building Gunpla models;[1] in November 2014, she was selected as a finalist in Bandai Namco's Gunpla Battle Project Type Bond event.[4]
Sorano made her idol debut in July 2013 as part of the second generation of the local idol group Vienolossi.[5] She left Vienolossi a year later,[6] due to various factors causing mental illness,[3] and restarted her career as a solo idol in October 2014.[1] She credits Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn for helping her through this difficult period in her life.[3] She later became a founding member of the idol group ARCANA PROJECT when it debuted in late 2019.[7] Sorano also joined Dempagumi.inc in February 2021 while continuing her role in ARCANA PROJECT, performing for both groups simultaneously.[8]
Ace Combat brand ambassador
In July 2021, Sorano hosted a talk with Manabu Shimomoto, Kazutoki Kono, Masato Kanno, Kosuke Itomi, and staff of ILCA to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ace Combat and announce the next Ace Combat game. The talk was recorded and premiered a month later on ACE COMBAT Channel. At the start of the discussion, Sorano joked that she was perfect to emcee for the event since "Aozora" literally translates to the color "sky blue".[9]
On February 14, 2022, Project Aces announced Sorano as a brand ambassador for Ace Combat.[10] The announcement coincided with the publishing of the first video in a series that would chronicle Sorano's "road to inauguration" into the role. The video featured Kono and Shimomoto testing Sorano's Ace Combat skill in a one-on-one Battle Royal match between Shimomoto and Sorano in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.[11]
