Project Aces (プロジェクト・エイセス Purojekuto eisesu),[1] often stylized as PROJECT ACES, is an internal development team of Bandai Namco Entertainment employees who have been directly responsible for developing Ace Combat games since 2001. Prior to that, development for Ace Combat games was simply credited to Namco.

History

Project Aces was founded between 1999 and 2001 as The AC04 Project, the development team for Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies. After the release of Ace Combat 04 in September of 2001, the team was rebranded as Project Aces, signifying that its core members would be chiefly responsible for the development of the Ace Combat franchise from that point on. Project Aces' first official game was thus Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, and since then they have assisted with the development of every game in the series, with very few exceptions (including Ace Combat Advance, Ace Combat Assault Horizon: Trigger Finger, and Ace Combat: Northern Wings).

On June 1, 2022,[2] Bandai Namco founded Bandai Namco Aces, a joint studio owned by both Bandai Namco and ILCA. The existence of Bandai Namco Aces was subsequently revealed to the public on June 30, 2022.[3] The company is helmed by executives from both ILCA and Project Aces, and will be responsible for developing future Ace Combat titles.
