Hello all! I am TJ, callsign: Archangel. I have been an affectionate fan of the Ace Combat franchise since I first played Ace Combat 4 on my PS2. Since then I have branched out and played a variety of the Ace Combat games, even as far as to try similar games of other franchises, although none turned out to be close to Ace Combat. Since then I have never lost focus of my roots and am solidly looking forward to the release of the long awaited Ace Combat 7. I unfortunately have not and likely will not play Ace Combat Infinity, as I lack the necessary hardware, although I still follow and try to support that community as much as I can.
Thoughts on the Main Games
- Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies - Ace Combat 04 was my first experience with the series, and much of what I remember being great is very much wrapped in nostalgia. After recently replaying the game I noticed how well the game has aged and this goes for the others as well. Although there were a few things that I would nitpick about like the intensely dark lighting, which makes night missions seem like your flying blind, and the physics of the preceding Ace Combat games. Albeit the story and writing was top notch along with really engaging gameplay (pun intended).
- Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War - Arguably my favourite game in the franchise, Ace Combat 5 perfected the art of story telling, through impressive visuals (for the day), animated cut scenes and improved gameplay mechanics. This game even to this day still ceases to amaze me with it's astounding list of aircraft available only topped by the most recent entry Ace Combat Infinity. Plus who doesn't want to fly in a pure black fighter jet?
