For the UPEO refueling tanker, see EK-17U.

The EC-17U Hornet is a fictional variant of the F/A-18 Hornet aircraft family featured in Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere. The aircraft made its sole appearance in early development of the game, which featured a single "UPEO-aligned" unit engaged in combat over the Waiapolo Mountains, Expo City and Comona Islands.

Additional information on this aircraft is extremely elusive, as it was not included in the final version of the game, presumably having been scrapped in favor of the F/A-18I Hornet ADV.

Description

The EC-17U is based on the YF-17 Cobra, the prototype of the F/A-18, as evidenced by the aircraft's elevators and leading edge root extensions, as well as the "-17" in its name. Despite being designated as a UPEO aircraft, the emblem featured on its rudder is an early concept of Neucom's emblem called "Solid States", seen on the concept arts from the Relay Essay.
