"He's a mass delusion fabricated by the rumor mill of social media."
― Unknown[2]

Jan Cope, callsign Rex, was a legendary naval aviator in the Federation of Central Usea (FCU)'s navy. His fearsome reputation as a top ace pilot earned him the nickname "Wings of Theve" (or simply Wings),[2] though the extent of his abilities was greatly exaggerated[3][4] by the influence of social media.[2]

During the Sotoa-FCU conflict, Cope was killed in action, causing his backseater to assume his nickname and mantle in the hopes of keeping morale alive.[2]

History

"Start swimming, soldier. Make it home alive."
― Cope's last words[2]

At some point prior to 2029, Jan Cope joined the FCU Navy as a pilot, becoming lauded as the "Wings of Theve" by the time of the Sotoa-FCU conflict. Some believed his reputation to be exaggerated by the influence of social media, likening his status to a delusion.[2]

During the conflict, Cope and his weapon systems officer (WSO) were shot down. Unable to escape the wreckage, Cope ordered his WSO to swim to safety before drowning. The WSO—having managed to grab Cope's dog tags before swimming to the surface—later assumed Cope's callsign and nickname to keep the legend of the Wings of Theve alive, becoming the new "Rex."[2]
