Ace Combat Wiki:One Year After Forking

Ace Combat 7 reached 5 million copies sold last year. This was the commemorative wallpaper made to celebrate the milestone.

Greetings, aces! May 23, 2024 is our one-year anniversary of forking away from our previous platform to wiki.gg! This summary page details what we've done over the last year since the fork.

As a reminder, you can use a browser extension to help redirect you to the new wiki. The "redirect to wiki.gg" extension is available on Chrome, Firefox (including Firefox for Android), and Edge. The "Indie Wiki Buddy" extension also supports redirecting to the Ace Combat Wiki.

Also, if you made any edits on the old wiki, you can migrate your account and preserve your edit history! If you didn't have an account before, you can instead make a brand-new account. Users can access our Discord server to chat and organize!

Page Highlights

These lists don't include every new or updated page, but they list the ones we wanted to highlight in this retrospective post.

New

Updated

  • Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere, which received brand-new English and Spanish translations by load word team less than a week after we forked!
  • Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, because of the Nintendo Switch port releasing in less than two months on July 11!
  • Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War/Aces, with a much-improved table format and multiple corrections to spawn information. This is now the definitive page for finding out how to spawn each named aircraft in Zero.
  • Strangereal/Timeline, where the numerous character births are now in their own section, allowing for a much easier-to-navigate timeline of events.
  • Neutron bomb, with all of the various specifications Project Aces put together for the nuclear shells we see in "Ten Million Relief Plan".
  • Arcade Mode, completely overhauled to read smoother, better describe the gameplay, explain the scoring, and detail the rewards.
  • Liquid phonemes in Ace Combat, renamed from "lallation", to avoid associating the phenomenon with a potentially-degrading term.
  • Map:Strangereal, a brand-new version with lore-accurate labels thanks to the wonderful a-chako. We will start adding this to pages to provide mapping context for locations!

Project Highlights

A new fan-made version of the Strangereal map, closer to official; see Map:Strangereal for the interactive version

Have you joined our Discord server? We have dedicated channels for discussing the wiki and keeping up with recent changes, as well as coordinating on feedback and larger improvement projects.

These lists don't include every completed or in-progress project, but they list the ones we wanted to highlight in this retrospective post.

Completed

In-Progress

  • Mapping! We have Map:Strangereal as described above (which is still missing plenty of markers, especially in Anea and south Osea), as well as Map:Strangereal missions.
    • We would appreciate help in completing these maps!
  • Game-specific theme selection, which will change the site's colors to match some of the games (think 5's green, Zero's red)
  • Removing as many links to our old platform as possible, this is mostly done, we have one final list to take care of
    • As part of this, all legacy links to videos have been replaced with actual video embeds.
  • Arcade Mode mission pages
  • Transcript pages; we're still trying to figure out a good formatting for them. See Transcript:Glacial Skies for one new idea.

Future Plans

This image is still all we have about the next Ace Combat game.

We have a few things in store for the future:

  • SEO - Our biggest competitor right now is ourselves; our previous platform host refuses to take down their version of the wiki, so we're going to be fighting an uphill battle to keep the community aware of our new home.
    • You can help! Editing pages to make them distinct and unique from how they used to appear is the best way to signal to search engines that this is where the community is now. If you see anyone reference the old wiki, kindly let them know that we've moved. Make use of the redirect extensions mentioned at the top of the page. If you're using bookmarks, make sure they're updated!
    • If you want to help but don't know how or where to start, ask us! We're always welcome to more people willing to contribute!
  • Next game - When new information comes out about the next Ace Combat, we'll need all the help we can get to report on everything that gets revealed!
  • Look and feel - The wiki's theme will be ever-evolving as MediaWiki (the software we're using) receives updates. Nothing is set in stone, especially now that we have much more freedom to style the wiki on both desktop and mobile.
  • Continued work on legacy content - Our coverage of the older games continues to be an ongoing improvement project. We'd like to thank user UI4054 in particular for helping out with AC3 aircraft articles over this last year.
  • Feedback and projects - As always, this is a community effort. People just like you are editing and contributing to making this the best place for Ace Combat information on the internet. If you have any feedback at all, let us know directly on the wiki talk pages, on Discord, or on other social media. Our ongoing projects are also viewable in our Discord server, and we're always welcome to hearing new ideas and opinions.
    • As part of this, we're going to be writing up guidelines for new wiki admins to join the team!

That's all for this post. Stay safe and fly high, aces!
